Portrait Of A Continental Gentleman

Portrait Of A Continental Gentleman

This early 19th-century portrait of a dapper gentleman captures his characterful expression particularly well. He’s dressed smartly in a frock coat with a white shirt and black necktie. While his hair is curled at the sides according to the style of the day.

We purchased the painting in the UK but it’s probably continental due to its size (which is metric rather than imperial).

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
