Pierre Petit, Portrait Of Madame Ernestine Maudet

Pierre Petit, Portrait Of Madame Ernestine Maudet

A charming early 20th-century portrait of Madame Ernestine Maudet (1880-1971) by French painter, Pierre Petit. She’s wearing a black dress, pearl necklace and fur coat draped off the shoulder.

We particularly love her expression, which speaks of curiosity, life, and joy.

Ernestine Maudet was born in the Val D’Oise region of France, which is to the north of Paris. Ancestry records describe her mother as a glovemaker and her father as a chairmaker.

The portrait is signed in the lower left.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
