Percy Lancaster, Two Etchings

Percy Lancaster, Two Etchings

This beautiful pair of etchings by British artist Percy Lancaster (1878-1951) depict a lady in two positions. In the first, she’s standing with head bowed and hands clasped. It’s a moment of reflection, almost prayerlike. While in the second, she’s seated and looking ahead with interest - mouth slightly open as if she’s about to talk. In both, the lady wears a long orient-inspired robe, which Lancaster has etched skilfully.

Both etchings are signed in pencil, framed and glazed.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
