Mid 20th-Century Portrait Of A Man & Dove

Mid 20th-Century Portrait Of A Man & Dove

An intriguing mid-20th-century portrait of a man holding a book with a dove on his left shoulder. It dates to 1945 so perhaps the dove is a symbolic reference to peace following the end of World War II.

We love the unusual atmosphere in this expressive piece and it would make an interesting talking point.

The portrait is monogrammed in the lower left and housed within a frame that’s probably the original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
