Manner Of Jean Baptiste Greuze, Portrait Of A Girl

Manner Of Jean Baptiste Greuze, Portrait Of A Girl

This charming 19th-century portrait depicts a young lady with a distant, lost in time expression. She gazes wistfully into the yonder and wears roses upon her dress. The portrait is signed JB Greuze, which refers to the French painter, Jean Baptiste Greuze (1725-1805), but it’s a good later copy. Greuze was celebrated for his sentimental portraiture and melodramatic scenes.

The painting is housed within a beautiful scroll and foliate frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
