Léopold Lecomte, Marina With Fishing Boats And Storefronts

Léopold Lecomte, Marina With Fishing Boats And Storefronts

A very tired but beautiful old impressionistic oil painting by Belgian painter, Léopold Lecomte (1890-1963).

Lecomte enjoyed painting coastal scenes and his work is characterised by the liberal use of oil paint and its easy-going nature.

Several areas of this painting are heavily textured, which is reminiscent of the post-impressionists, such as Van Gogh. But the years have been a little unkind leaving it flaking and worn.

If you enjoy character, this piece could look wonderful in the right setting.

It’s signed in the lower left.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
