Léon Marie Benoît, Autumnal Landscape With Distant Hills

Léon Marie Benoît, Autumnal Landscape With Distant Hills

A calming autumnal landscape painting by French artist, Léon Marie Benoît. The subdued palette of subtle browns and cool blues give the piece a chilly atmosphere. It evokes the feeling of a brisk walk on a cold day in November.

In 1907, Benoît was awarded a medal at a Salon in Lyon where he exhibited multiple times. The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a decorative foliate frame.

Overall size: 23” x 18” / 59cm x 46cm

Artist’s auction highlight: £4,800 achieved at Christie’s for ‘Peaches and Cherries Cascading from a French Faience Bowl’ in 2004.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
