The Daily News

This 20th-century oil painting by Hungarian artist, Leo Bekessy (1890-1966), captures an everyday moment of family life with harmonious tones and spirited brushwork.

With arms resting on a small dining table, she leans forward to read the daily news. He’s discussing a story, certainly interested, perhaps disillusioned.

Bekessy has painted this scene with his usual vigour - the marks laid down with confidence and impressionistic flourishes.

The painting is housed within a dark frame with a gold liner and inscribed.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
