Portrait Of A Young Man

This charming late 19th-century German oil painting depicts a young scholar standing before an expansive lake with distant hills and castle. He’s wearing a dark suit with a blue bow tie and carrying a hat.

The identity of this young chap is unknown but the topography is reminiscent of Bavaria. He’s portrayed rather confidently so perhaps he’s the heir of an important estate.

Held in a gilt frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
