Moored Sailboats

This early 20th-century oil on canvas by Swedish artist Justus Lundegard (1860-1924) depicts two colourful sailboats moored in a quiet harbour under a bright sky with pinkish clouds.

The boats bob gently alongside the flickering ripples of light, which extend towards us. Cleverly rendered reflections of brightly coloured sails. Lundegard painted this towards the end of his life and surely enjoyed the tranquillity of this peaceful coastal moment.

Signed in the lower right and framed.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
