A fine 19th-century rural landscape by English painter, Henry William Carter (act.1867-1904). In the foreground, we see a child walking alongside her mother who is carrying firewood. While, beyond the trees, smoke from a chimney drifts up into the air.

Henry William Carter was a London-based painter that’s known to have exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Academy.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a beautiful foliate frame with swept corners.
