Hendrik-Jan Neuland, Farmhouse Interior With Fireplace

Hendrik-Jan Neuland, Farmhouse Interior With Fireplace

A charming 20th-century oil on canvas depicting a cosy farmhouse interior with a roaring fire and various utensils.

The artist, Hendrik-Jan Neuland (1928-2009), was part of a group that worked alongside Dutch painter Adrianus Johannes Zwart (1903-1981). Neuland painted in a very similar style to Zwart and they both produced interior scenes featuring the same fireplace from various angles.

Zwart studied at the Academy for Visual Arts in The Hague and spent many years travelling aboard a houseboat. He would've known Neuland well.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a sturdy wooden frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
