Harald Pryn, Winter’s Day With Snowy Track Near Hösterköb, Denmark

Harald Pryn, Winter’s Day With Snowy Track Near Hösterköb, Denmark

A fine early 20th-century oil on canvas by Danish landscape artist, Harald Julius Niels Pryn (1891-1968).

Pryn was a master at capturing how light fell upon thick snow-covered paths and this is a great example of his work. The snowy track winding its way vertically is beautifully observed and it reflects a subtle pink, blue and white.

By opting for this composition, Pryn draws us into the scene and ignites our imagination, which wanders off towards the warmth of the cottages. You can almost feel a chill in the air as you appreciate the stillness of this peaceful environment.

The painting is signed in the lower left and housed within a gilded frame that’s probably its original. You can find more of Pryn’s work at Christie’s: http://artist.christies.com/harald-julius-niels-pryn-40288.aspx

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
