Harald Pryn, Winter Landscape With Track & Buildings

Harald Pryn, Winter Landscape With Track & Buildings

A wintery early 20th-century oil on canvas by Danish artist, Harald Julius Niels Pryn (1891-1968).

Towards the centre of the composition, a snow-covered track winds its way towards two farm buildings past trees and a dry stone wall. The snow is several feet deep in areas and the buildings would be a warm and welcome retreat.

Harald Pryn was a master at chilly rural views with winding countryside tracks. He worked primarily around his home in Bagsvaerd, near Copenhagen, and he’s well known for his snow-covered wintery scenes.

The painting is signed in the lower left and housed in a gilded foliate frame that’s probably its original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
