Harald Pryn, Danish Village With Thatched Cottage

Harald Pryn, Danish Village With Thatched Cottage

A charming early-20th-century landscape painting depicting a thatched cottage with red windows and door by Danish painter, Harald Julius Niels Pryn (1891-1968). It’s such a beautiful little piece with pops of vibrancy and a skilful array of brush marks.

Pryn tended to work around his home in Bagsvaerd, near Copenhagen, and he’s known primarily for his snow-covered wintery scenes. His Summertime landscapes are quite rare and this a good example.

The painting is signed in the lower right and we can supply its original frame if required.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 14” x 10” / 36cm x 26cm
Year of creation: c. 1930

Artist’s auction highlight: £15,000 achieved for ‘Village covered in Snow, Lillerös’ in 2006 at Sotheby’s.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
