German School, Sunlit Interior

German School, Sunlit Interior

An atmospheric early 20th-century interior scene depicting a stylish living room with table, chair, bench, artwork and rugs. The artist is clearly well-trained and they’ve rendered the various elements with skill and a keen eye. Note the lifelike undulations in the rugs and the light as it falls through the partially opened voile.

The painting is signed ‘E Von Saalburg’ in the lower right and housed within a later frame.

Overall size: 18” x 21” / 45cm x 54cm
Year of creation: c. 1920

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
