This early 20th-century watercolour by British artist George Goodwin Kilburne (1845-1932) depicts a loving scene from the early 19th century. With her daughter looking on, mother adjusts father’s buttonhole flower, which appears to be a white rose. She’s wearing a beautiful classically-inspired dress.

Kilburne was well-versed in capturing delicate moments within the homes of the upper classes and his works were popular throughout his life.

Signed lower right, inscribed on the reverse and held within a later frame.
