Frederik Storch, Portrait Of A Woman

Frederik Storch, Portrait Of A Woman

A fine mid-19th-century portrait of a woman with an endearing smile by Danish painter, Frederik Storch (1805-1883).

This beautiful painting captures the subject’s expression with a deft touch and careful attention to detail. We love the cheeks, which glow and indicate a degree of shyness - and the hair with almost every strand rendered.

Frederik Storch trained and later taught at the Royal Danish Academy. Many of his works are held in museum collections and this is a good example of his portraiture.

The painting is signed/dated and housed within a frame that’s probably its original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
