Frederick Larsen-Saerslov, Interior Scene With Seated Family

An early 20th-century interior scene depicting a family sat around a table by Danish painter, Frederick Larsen-Saerslov (1870-1942). It’s a fascinating piece that provides a snapshot into a time gone by - when families sat together while enjoying their own activities.

The mother and daughter appear to be sewing, while the father and son read. It’s interesting to imagine what they were reading - perhaps both are studying some interesting literature.

Larsen-Saerslov was primarily a landscape artist but his paintings often include figures. He studied at the well-respected school of Peder Severin Krøyer and also undertook several study trips to Europe.

The painting is housed within a period frame and signed/dated.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
