Pavel Fleischmann, Teacher Larsson

Pavel Fleischmann, Teacher Larsson

A mid-20th-century portrait of a teacher by Czech-Swedish artist, Pavel Fleischmann (1898-1978). She’s dressed in a cardigan, red tie and yellow shirt. Her arms are resting on her legs. The portrait is titled “Lärarinnan Larsson”, which translates as Teacher Larsson. Perhaps she taught the artist’s children?

Fleischmann’s brushwork is bold, colourful and broad. He’s built the oils up in places to give the pieces a little texture.

The portrait is signed in the upper right and housed within a wooden frame. It’s also inscribed on the reverse.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
