This early 20th-century oil painting by Belgian artist Felix Alois Sauter (1881-1963) depicts a coastal view with sailboats.
With loose impressionistic daubs, Sauter captures a busy coastal vista. The clouds, puffed up in impasto, drift above several vessels with sails billowing. A sole steamboat chugs along in grey. The spirit of Summer encapsulated in deft plein air touches.
Signed and dated in the lower right and framed.
