Eugène D’Argence, Forest Landscape With River

Eugène D’Argence, Forest Landscape With River

A beautifully calm impressionistic landscape painting by French painter, Eugène D’Argence (1853-1920). You’re tucked away in a peaceful woodland looking out across a wide river towards a distant steamboat. The air is cool with only the sound of birdsong for company.

D’Argence trained under Pierre François Eugène Giraud and Charles Busson and he’s predominantly known as a landscape painter. His landscapes often depict views of Corsica, Algeria, Paris and its surroundings.

He exhibited widely during his lifetime including at Salon des Indépendants between 1890 and 1893 and at the Salon National between 1899 and 1913. He’s also represented at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
