Ernst Murr, Still Life With A Bouquet Of Chrysanthemums

Ernst Murr, Still Life With A Bouquet Of Chrysanthemums

An impressionistic still life depicting a bouquet of chrysanthemums by Austrian artist, Ernst Murr (1920-2001). It’s beautifully rendered with areas of light impasto and some confident brushwork.

Murr trained under Professor Ziegler at the Munich Academy and a newspaper article on the reverse provides some further information. Apparently he was left-handed.

The painting is signed/dated in the lower right.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 25” x 33” / 63cm x 84cm
Year of creation: 1943
Provenance: Germany
Condition: Several scratches including an area towards the top right. Frame with some general wear.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
