Eric Ward, Rosie

Eric Ward, Rosie

We almost couldn’t part with this beautiful painting of ‘Rosie’ the calico cat as it’s just such a charming piece.

It’s by Eric Ward (1945-) who was born in Cornwall and studied at the St Ives School of Art. Many of his works depict everyday scenes in an impressionistic manner with cat paintings being quite a rarity.

Perhaps Rosie was his own? Or maybe a commission from a nearby friend?

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
