Emil Danielsson, Portrait Of A Seated Nude In Profile

Emil Danielsson, Portrait Of A Seated Nude In Profile

A vibrant early 20th-century oil on canvas depicting a seated nude in profile by Finnish painter, Emil Danielsson (1882-1967). Stylistically, this piece feels as contemporary as the day it was painted and could work within any interior - alongside old or new. We love the palette and the sense of femininity.

Danielsson was an intriguing character and he’s best known for building his own stone castle on a mountain in Finland. The castle was built in a traditional manner using hand tools and without connecting materials - every stone was carved to allow them to fit together. He often painted from his mountain castle, which was finished in 1906, so perhaps this piece was created there.

Emil Danielsson trained at Abo drawing school and exhibited widely throughout his life.

The painting is monogrammed and dated in the lower right.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
