Emil Clahr, Marina At Öland, Sweden

Emil Clahr, Marina At Öland, Sweden

An easy-going oil painting depicting a boat at a marina in Öland, Sweden. The artist, Emil Clahr (1905-1983) has used a broad brush and a light palette, which gives the piece an uplifting mood.

Clahr studied under the brilliant Isaac Grünewald and Otte Sköld, before moving to Paris where he trained at the Académie Julian. He’s known for his landscapes, which often depict Öland and the surrounding areas. Öland is a small island off the south-east coast of Sweden that has several marinas.

The painting is signed in the lower right.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
