Portrait Of A Boy

A wonderful 1930s portrait of Günther, a smart young gentleman wearing a coat, black bowtie, lilac waistcoat, and trousers.

This beautiful piece is a very good example of a painted photograph and one of the finest we’ve discovered here at Brave.

The portrait is inscribed Günther, Christmas 1933, and housed within a fine period frame.

Medium: Oil on paper laid on board
Overall size: 24” x 34” / 61cm x 86cm
Year of creation: 1933
Provenance: Germany
Condition: Overall very presentable. A few minor marks here and there. Frame with some age-related wear.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
