Early 20th-Century French School River Landscape With Ruins

Early 20th-Century French School River Landscape With Ruins

A beautiful impressionistic oil on wood depicting a French river landscape with castle ruins. It feels quickly painted and was probably created ‘en plein air’ while the artist enjoyed the view.

There are some nice passages where the oils are layered to create texture. Signed R. Damoiseau in the lower right and housed in a frame that could be the original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
