Early 20th-Century Danish School

Seated Male Nude

An enigmatic early 20th-century Danish school painting depicting a seated male nude with back turned.

It’s a wonderfully decorative piece and the artist has given the figure an almost godlike quality. Note how he fills the canvas - giving him an abundance of presence.

The painting is housed within a good later frame.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 32” x 40” / 82cm x 101cm
Year of creation: c. 1910
Provenance: Denmark
Condition: Overall very presentable.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
