Dark Portrait Of A Lady In A Hat

Dark Portrait Of A Lady In A Hat

A most unusual dark portrait of a lady in a black hat. She could perhaps be wearing her mourning wear, which would make the painting a mark of respect for a lost spouse or relative. This seems likely as it bears a date of 1919, just one year after the end of World War I.

It’s signed in the upper left and housed within an appropriate later frame.

Oil on cardboard laid on canvas

Very good overall. Frame with a few knocks here and there.
