Claude Marin, A Summer’s Day In Luxembourg

Claude Marin, A Summer’s Day In Luxembourg

A beautiful impressionistic oil on canvas depicting a sunlit park in Luxembourg by French painter, Claude Marin (1914-2001). Marin painted with such joy and his loose light-filled brushwork reminds us of his French compatriot, Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919).

Sunlit murmurs hum
the beat of July.
As glazed over papers
rest on extended legs.

While a green chair
half pushed into cold grass
Leans
dizzy with Summer.

Two thirty
an old shade.

The painting is signed in the lower right and inscribed with a timestamp of 14:30.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
