Christian Tilemann-Petersen, Interior Scene With Woman

Christian Tilemann-Petersen, Interior Scene With Woman

A fine oil on canvas depicting a rustic interior adorned with paintings, tapestries and hunting trophies. A woman is leaving through a door to the rear.

The artist, Christian Tilemann-Petersen (1874-1926), was a master of light and this is a good example of how he creates a sense of intrigue by choosing a composition that emphasises light and shade.

He often painted interior scenes from buildings with historic significance, so this is possibly a castle or stately home.

The painting is signed in the lower left and housed within a later frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
