Christian Tilemann-Petersen, Interior Scene From Glorup Manor, Denmark

A fine oil on canvas depicting a room at the splendid Glorup Manor on the Danish island of Funen. The artist, Christian Tilemann-Petersen (1874-1926), has captured an interesting viewpoint from within a games room.

On the left, a snooker table stands before a large painting depicting a scene from Norse history. Tilemann-Petersen has rendered the painting nicely and we’re trying to find out what it represents. While on the right, an open door leads through to a long corridor that’s adorned with artwork - probably portraits.

Christian Tilemann-Petersen had a skill for capturing the mood within quiet interiors and several of his works have appeared at the leading auction houses.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
