Christian Tilemann-Petersen, Interior, Fredensborg Castle

This fine oil on canvas by Danish artist Christian Tilemann-Petersen (1874-1926) depicts a room at the splendid Fredensborg Castle on the island of Zealand. Fredensborg is the Spring and Autumn residence of the Danish Royal Family and dates to the mid-18th century.

Tilemann-Petersen had a skill for capturing the mood within quiet interiors and this is a particularly good example.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
