Christian Tilemann-Petersen, Dark Interior Scene With Portraits

A fine oil on canvas depicting a dark room within a grand old building by Danish artist, Christian Tilemann-Petersen (1874-1926). The walls are decorated with 17th/18th-century portraits and an impressive armoire stands proudly in the background.

Tilemann-Petersen’s attention to detail brings life to every object in this beautiful room and we particularly love the way he’s captured the light. If you give the painting some time, you can almost hear a clock ticking.

Christian Tilemann-Petersen had a skill for capturing the mood within quiet interior scenes and several of his works have appeared at leading auction houses. The painting is signed/dated in the lower left

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
