Carl Tiebler, Portrait Of Rudolph Langer

Carl Tiebler, Portrait Of Rudolph Langer

A fine late-19th-century portrait of a young Rudolph Langer by Austrian painter, Carl Tiebler (1821-1895). The details here are exquisite and we particularly love the oversized bow tie.

Tiebler studied under portrait painter, Joseph Kieslings, and also attended the drawing school at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Several of his works can be found in museums including a self-portrait from 1861, which hangs in his hometown.

Carl Tiebler’s son, Georg Teibler (1854-1911), was also a painter and in 1877 he created a portrait of his father.

The painting is housed within a later frame, signed/dated, and inscribed on the reverse.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
