Carl Milton Jensen, Forest Scenery With Chaffinches & Stream

Carl Milton Jensen, Forest Scenery With Chaffinches & Stream

An impressionistic early 20th-century oil on canvas depicting a stream within a forest by Danish painter, Carl Milton Jensen (1855-1928).

This fine evocative painting conjures up the sights and sounds of a dense woodland teeming with life. You can almost hear the stream as it cascades over the rocks by your feet - with two nearby chaffinches adding their own light melody.

Jensen trained at the Academy of Fine Arts and exhibited regularly at Charlottenborg, Copenhagen and Aarhus. During the early 20th-century, he produced many works depicting the picturesque forests at Marselisborg, Denmark, and this piece fits within that oeuvre.

The painting is signed/dated in the lower right and housed within a gilded frame that’s probably its original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
