Carlo Hornung-Jensen, Living Room Interior With Seated Woman

This early 20th-century interior scene by Danish artist Carl Hornung-Jensen (1882-1960) depicts a seated woman amid a plush living room interior.

Under the glow of a single lamp, a lady in black sits at a writing desk - seemingly deep in thought. She looks towards a table with liquor, her green shoe conspicuous and jutting. The nets behind are tied back to reveal a bright moonlit sky - its silvery blue complementing the warm woodwork of cherished furnishings.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
