A fine 19th-century landscape painting by Danish artist, Carl Gotfred Würtzen (1825-1880).

In the foreground, a track winds its way between foliage towards a picturesque lake. Note the track marks, perhaps a cart or bicycle? While further on, a few small dwellings are nestled into the scenery. Imagine waking up to a view across the lake with the light shimmering across its surface.

Würtzen was primarily known for his landscapes and he enjoyed working in the areas around North Zealand, Funen and Jutland, Denmark. He also travelled to Italy, England, Germany, Norway and France.

The painting is signed in the lower left and housed within a gilt frame. There's also an inscription on the reverse but it's tricky to decipher.
