This beautiful early-20th-century oil on canvas by Danish artist Carl Budtz-Mølle (1882-1953) depicts the splendid interior of a gothic church in Chartres, France, with a rib-vault ceiling.

Budtz-Mølle has rendered this sublimely and captured the architecture with careful observation. Note the array of colours radiating through the stained glass and the exquisite brushwork, which describes the altar.
