British School, Study Of A Male Nude

British School, Study Of A Male Nude

This fine early 20th-century drawing of a male nude is skilfully observed with particular attention to the musculature. The model holds an interesting pose that’s perhaps ‘contrapposto’, where the weight rests on one leg.

Details of the artist have been lost over time but it’s probably an academic study.

Framed and glazed.

Medium: Charcoal on paper
Overall size: 21” x 29” / 54cm x 73cm
Year of creation: c. 1920
Condition: Artwork presents well.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
