British School, 19th-Century Provincial River Landscape

British School, 19th-Century Provincial River Landscape

A worn 19th-century oil on canvas depicting a river landscape with buildings and a woman carrying a basket.

Time has taken its toll on this charming painting but the scuffs, holes and wear only seem to add to its atmospheric ‘lost in time’ appearance. It’s an interesting decorative item for a gallery wall or shelf.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
