Belgian School, Portrait Of A Man In A Red Jacket

Belgian School, Portrait Of A Man In A Red Jacket

A characterful early 20th-century portrait of a man in a red jacket. We love the bold brushwork in this piece, which gives the figure a sense of movement.

On the reverse, there's a fragment of what appears to be a love letter from 'Gerard' to his wife. Perhaps Gerard is the artist or sitter.

The painting is housed within its original frame.

Overall size: 17” x 25” / 43cm x 63cm
Year of creation: c. 1930

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
