Albert Petersen, Portrait Of An Older Lady

Albert Petersen, Portrait Of An Older Lady

A fine early 20th-century oil on canvas depicting a seated older lady holding a book. The artist, Albert Petersen (1875-1957), has captured the expression of a kind and gentle woman. We love the cheeky half-smile and the brightness in the eyes.

Petersen is known predominantly for his portraits and coastal scenes. He exhibited internationally during his lifetime including at the Paris Salon in 1922.

The portrait is signed in the lower right and held within a frame that’s probably the original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
