This charming autumnal landscape by Anglo-Dutch artist, Abraham Hulk Junior (1844-1922) depicts a picturesque view with country track, figures, and distant hill.
A tight blanket of dense clouds hover as light flickers from puddles of trodden earth. The partially bereft branches indicate the season, their wind-battered forms buried in foliage. He's heading towards a distant field, clutching his daughter’s hand - the path ahead peppered with golden hay.
Hulk Junior treasured the British countryside. Its transient weather, damp autumnal hikes, twisting country tracks and pastoral idylls. He held a particular fondness for Autumn.
