An attractive light-filled street scene depicting several old buildings in Alsace, northern France.
We love the way that the composition draws your eye down the street towards, what appears to be, a town square. The buildings feel historic and timeworn - there are no clean lines along this raggedy old road.
Alsace is situated on the French/German border and reflects a blend of the two cultures. It’s possible that the artist ‘A Braunsteffer’ grew up here as they produced other works featuring the same region.
The painting is signed in the lower left and inscribed on the reverse.
