20th-Century Danish School, Urban Scene With Figures

The back streets of urban Denmark. Strong vertical forms dominate the view - rendered buildings frame the composition. Two figures look towards a third, what’s he doing? Heading home? Gesticulating? A burglar?

This vibrant city view dates to around 1930 and it’s a good example of Danish modernism. Perfect for a mid-century home.

Housed within a period frame.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 26” x 40½” / 66cm x 103cm
Year of creation: c. 1930
Condition: Craquelure but the paint layer is stable. A few paint losses. Some undulation. Frame with some light age-related wear.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
