19th-Century Stormy Landscape With Estuary

19th-Century Stormy Landscape With Estuary

An expressive 19th-century landscape painting depicting a stormy view across an estuary towards the sea. The artist has captured a moment whereby the sun is beginning to appear through the thick low-lying rain clouds. The trees are windswept, the ground is flooded, yet the storm appears to be passing.

We particularly love the brushwork, which is reminiscent of an oil sketch by John Constable.

The painting is housed within a beautiful period frame with foliate decoration and swept corners.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
