19th-Century Portrait Of A Girl With A Flower

19th-Century Portrait Of A Girl With A Flower

A charming German school portrait of a demure young lady holding a flower. This beautiful piece dates to the early part of the 19th-century and certainly tugs at the heartstrings. It was probably once hanging in a family home alongside portraits of siblings and the girl’s parents.

The portrait is housed within a later frame.

Overall size: 18½” x 21” / 47cm x 54cm
Year of creation: c. 1840

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
