19th-Century German School, Artist’s Studio

19th-Century German School, Artist’s Studio

A fine late 19th-century interior scene depicting the artist’s studio. The room is covered with an array of artworks including a large oil painting, which stands on an easel to our right.

We particularly love the various props and the scattering of drawings.

The painting is monogrammed in the lower left and housed within a handsome Cassetta frame with corner ornamentation.

Medium: Oil on wood
Overall size: 24½” x 30” / 62cm x 76cm
Year of creation: c. 1890
Provenance: Germany
Condition: Craquelure but the paint is stable. Frame with some light age-related wear.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
